Chargebee, a subscription management platform, was founded in 2011 in Chennai by four friends: Krish Subramanian, Rajaraman Santhanam, Saravanan KP, and Thiyagarajan Thiyagu. Chargebee is the subscription billing and revenue management platform that automates revenue operations of over-3,000 high-growth subscription-based businesses from startups to enterprises. Chargebee, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) firm that helps businesses manage revenue and improve customer retention, has acquired Trainn, an AI-first customer tracking platform founded in 2020.

Chargebee did not disclose the financial details, but data shows Trainn had raised around Rs 6 crore in seed funding from Speciale Invest and others. Trainn’s 200 customers will now become customers of Chargebee, giving the company a broader reach in an industry that is fast embracing artificial intelligence. Krish Subramanian, co-founder and CEO of Chargebee, said the acquisition is a chance for both companies to advance their shared vision of enabling customers in a constantly evolving market driven by AI." Joining hands with Trainn presents an exciting opportunity for both Chargebee and Trainn in jointly advancing our shared vision of enabling customers in a rapidly changing and innovative–driven market through the use of Al.

This move underscores the need for SaaS firms to strengthen their AI capabilities. Freshworks founder Girish Mathrubootham recently said AI is crucial and that any SaaS provider not adopting AI may lag. In contrast, Zoho CEO Manikandan Vembu believes AI is an essential part of SaaS but not an alternative to it, pointing out that enterprises still have basic needs that software must address. This is Chargebee's second major deal in about a month. The company recently acquired Inai, a software firm that helps track and manage payments, to explore how AI can improve billing processes and customer experiences. Subramanian explained that payments today involve many methods, such as digital wallets, buy-now-pay-later services, and real-time transfers, making it more important to automate tracking and analytics through AI. Chargebee was valued at $3.5 billion after raising $250 million in its Series H round in February 2022. Its main investors include Tiger Global, Peak XV, Insight Partners, Sapphire, and Steadview Capital.
