SpotKwik, a social commerce platform using augmented reality for shopping, was founded in 2020 by Mithun Adith and Anusha Sundar, and was recently acquired by Omnia. Founded in 2020, SpotKwik initially focused on B2C social commerce, leveraging AR technology to auto-tag influencer posts with products, allowing users to try on and purchase items virtually. The model gained traction, leading to partnerships with Meesho and Amazon, the onboarding of over 17,000 influencers, and over 500 daily orders at its peak. Omnia currently operates as a marketplace for AR creators, enterprises, and brands, delivering spatial experiences to major clients, including Tesla, AOI, and other U.S.-based companies.
By acquiring SpotKwik, Omnia gains access to its R&D and product offerings, positioning itself to accelerate spatial storytelling and enterprise-driven AR adoption, the release notes. SpotKwik, a Silicon Valley-backed augmented reality (AR) startup, has been acquired by Omnia, a U.S.-based extended reality (XR) company. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.Speaking about the acquisition, Mithun Adith, co-founder and CEO of SpotKwik, highlighted the company’s vision of moving beyond mobile-based AR into spatial computing. "While SpotKwik’s AR technology serves the platforms of today—smartphones—we aim to build for the platforms of tomorrow: headsets like Apple Vision Pro, freeing apps from the boundaries of a display and enabling them to appear as if seen through our real eyes. Omnia, with its XR distribution expertise and notable clients such as Tesla, AOI, and GM, is the perfect partner to help us build the future," Adith said. Aldo Petruzzelli, CEO and founder of Omnia, described the acquisition as a pivotal step toward bridging the gap between web-based experiences and the emerging spatial computing revolution. "By integrating SpotKwik’s capabilities, we’re enabling seamless conversion of web-based builds into spatial-ready applications, accelerating adoption across industries. This not only enhances content discoverability in AR and XR environments but also ensures that developers can effortlessly deploy their projects into the next era of computing without needing to rebuild from scratch," Petruzzelli said. The deal strengthens Omnia’s ability to offer turnkey AR solutions for enterprises, brands, and users while reinforcing its position in the growing spatial computing sector. Before Omnia’s acquisition, SpotKwik’s founders were in discussions with Karan Johar’s Tyaani Jewellers for a potential acquisition, which would have positioned Tyaani as India’s first spatial jewelry showroom.
The deal, however, fell through due to unforeseen circumstances, the startup said. SpotKwik’s core team will continue with Omnia, focusing on building immersive solutions that redefine digital interactions. Mithun Adith also hinted at launching a new venture by early 2025, stating: "I’m here today because of my early backers’ pat on my shoulders and sweat on the floor. I’m indebted to their efforts now on Earth and on Mars in the future, when we occupy it."
