Launched in 2019 by Satya Chakravarthy, The ePlane Company designs and manufactures electric flying taxis and aircraft. It plans to begin commercial operations by the latter half of 2026, with an initial production of 100 units per year. The aircraft will have an initial range of about 110 kilometers (68.4 miles), which can later be increased to more than 200 kilometers.
Electric aircraft startup The ePlane Company has agreed to supply 788 air ambulances in a deal valued at more than $1 billion. The Chennai-based company has raised $20 million from Speciale Invest and others to date. According to a report, under the non-binding agreement, The ePlane Company will supply electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to ICATT, an air ambulance service provider, which plans to deploy them across all districts in India. eVTOLs aspire to transform urban travel by developing battery-powered aircraft that can take off and land vertically, allowing commuters to avoid traffic congestion. India's eVTOL market also includes companies such as Archer Aviation and Sarla Aviation.
ePlane develops AI-based electric flying cars for taxi services, featuring a two-seater capacity, vertical takeoff, and a 200 km range. These vehicles are designed for both cargo and passenger transportation. Additionally, ePlane plans to start with three prototypes of the ambulances, accommodating a pilot, a paramedic, and a patient, along with a stretcher.
