Shark Tank India Pitch and Deal
During his Shark Tank India
season appearance, Chaitanya Malhotra gave information about his DIY kiki
business.
The founder began his pitch by
outlining the main problems that children are facing as a result of their
increased usage of technology. He founded Kalakaram to assist children in
rediscovering their creative selves.
According to the founder, in the
past 18 months, they have sold through their website, reached over 350 retail
locations, and been listed on key e-commerce platforms.
At a value of INR 20 crores, the
founder requested INR 50 lakhs for 2.5% equity.
Anupam Mittal (Founder & CEO
- People Group, Shaadi.com) increased the valuation and made an offer of ₹50
lakhs for a 4% equity share after Namita Thapar (Executive Director - Emcure
Pharmaceuticals), proposed ₹50 lakhs for a 5% ownership interest. Vineeta Singh
(Co-founder & CEO - Sugar Cosmetics) chose not to participate, citing
uncertainty about the business's scalability and valuation. Peyush Bansal (Co
founder & CEO - Lenskart.com) offered ₹50 lakhs in exchange for a 5% stock
stake, matching Namita's offer exactly. Aman Gupta (Co-founder and CMO – boat) matched
Anupam's offer in full, offering ₹50 lakhs in exchange for a 5% stock share.
Peyush changed his offer
throughout the negotiating process to ₹60 lakhs for a 6% equity stake. Still,
Anupam and Namita made the decision to work together. Originally wanting to
work alone, Aman changed his offer to ₹60 lakhs for a 6% equity stake. Even
with the change, Aman finally decided to withdraw from the talks as Chaitanya
insisted that he collaborate with other sharks. The final deal was sealed with
Peyush, Namita, and Anupam reaching an agreement.
Kalaram got a deal of INR 60
lakhs for 6% equity at a valuation of INR 10 crores from Anupam Mittal, Peyush
Bansal, and Namita Thapar.
At the end, the idea of Kalakaram
first began with the discovery that craft professionals, designers, teachers,
scout leaders, camps and other craft enthusiasts were having difficulty finding
the prices and quantities of craft supplies that they needed.
