Introduction
Conscious Chemist is a cutting edge
clean cosmetics brand that provides useful and efficient goods that are
essential choices for today's conscientious and conscious consumer rather than
alternatives. They are developing a line of intelligent, biocompatible skincare
products by combining the best aspects of science and nature. Their goal is to
produce goods that are safe for the environment and all types of skin. They
always keep an ear out for what the beauty community loves, thinks, and anticipates
as the future because we value the truth over pseudoscience. They do not view
self-care as a means of indulgence, but rather with the utmost respect. The
foundation of our vision and goods is functionality.
The cosmetics company Conscious
Chemist takes great satisfaction in its own brand identification. With the
ingredients in skincare products, they not only support your skincare
objectives but also address environmental concerns.
Conscious Chemist is quickly
gaining popularity as a staple in the skincare routine of all clean beauty
enthusiasts. The company has successfully combined science and nature in
skincare, which is a welcome concept in a world that is always evolving. It's
time for us to join the clean beauty movement, as seen by the growing
popularity of social media hashtags and phrases like #vocalforlocal and
#cleanbeauty #sustainable #global. Conscious Chemist drew our notice a year ago
with its idealistic and astute biocompatible skincare solutions. Potency and
purity are two different things, yet together they establish the foundation
that the label rests on. I think the incorporation of simplicity and minimalism
is perhaps the most important concept in beauty, however that's asking for a
lot. However, the Conscious Chemist team shocked me by offering only two items
on their menu in the previous year.
Founder’s Journey of Conscious
Chemist
Conscious Chemist is a science backed
beauty firm founded in 2019 by Robin Gupta and Prakher Mathur, whose goal is to
dispel consumer misconceptions about chemicals by providing solutions based on
solid data. The company offers 29 made Safe® certified, performance-focused
goods in its portfolio. In order to provide noticeable improvements in
skincare, the company places a high value on ingredient transparency and
concentrates on clinically tested strategies. Prakher Mathur, COO of Conscious
Chemist and co-founder, has experience in sales and content marketing from his
time at PropTiger & Schindler. In 2015, he graduated with a bachelor's
degree from Galgotias University, and in 2018, he finished his MBA at NMIMS
Hyderabad.
With their complimentary skills, they are
working together to drive the brand's mission. Both Robin Gupta and Prakher
Mathur were enthused about the marketing claims made by other products, such as
being chemical-free, eco-friendly, or 100% natural. They were curious as to
whether these labels were real.
Co-founder Robin Gupta prior
positions at Yumchek and Steel Authority of India are part of Gupta's
professional background. In 2015, he graduated with a BBA from Galgotias
University, and his commercial expertise helped the company flourish.
Business Model of
Conscious Chemist
Conscious Chemist is doing a
large-scale operation of best skincare products to control acne,
hyperpigmentation treatment, reduce open pores, serum for glowing skin, body
pigmentation, that sells more than 25,000 units a month throughout India. Not
only are their products accessible to a large national consumer base, but they
are also carried by well-known retail brands like Shoppers Stop and Health
& Glow.
According to Ivy Chin, partner at
Inflection Point Ventures, "consumer behaviour with regard to beauty and
skincare has clearly changed over the last three to five years." The story
of clean and sustainable beauty products has gained momentum due to the rise of
influencers and celebrities who share their beauty routines. The entry of
established and emerging brands into this industry will further accelerate its
growth, and we think Conscious Chemist has found the ideal niche thanks to its
brand-building approach that is purpose-driven. Supporting companies that are
not only on a successful growth trajectory but also environmentally aware has
always been vital to IPV.
A variety of elements make up
their main advantages and USPs. They provide cutting-edge, issue-specific
skincare products to address problems like hyperpigmentation, ageing, acne, and
sun damage. Because their products are made with clinical actives, even
beginners in skincare can use them. The brand's portfolio is mostly
results-driven, with a strong emphasis on informing customers about ingredients
and increasing consumer knowledge of the advantages of goods with scientific
backing. Conscious Chemist distinguishes itself in a market that values honesty
and transparency more and more by giving customers looking for reliable,
efficient products well-informed options. The beauty and personal care market
in India is projected to develop at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of
6.286%, from USD 25.96 billion in 2023 to USD 35.21 billion by 2028.
With a customer base of 350,000,
Conscious Chemist has accomplished noteworthy milestones and shown excellent
product loyalty and customer retention. Additionally, they have established a
strong online presence on Instagram, gaining 61,000 followers, which has
expanded the brand's audience and power.
Shark Tank India Pitch
The founders were seeking funding
deal of ₹60 lakhs at a ₹30 Crore valuation. They have serviced 3 lakh consumers
up to the pitch, and their FY 2022–23 sales came to ₹4.5 crores. Lotus Herbals and
Inflection Point Ventures were theirs previous investors. In November 2023,
Conscious Chemist raised an undisclosed amount from Inflection Point Ventures.
As per their pitch, the valuation was around 16 Crores in their last round.
Given that Vineeta Singh (CO-Founder
& CEO SUGAR Cosmetics) works in the same cosmetics industry, she was
already aware of the company. The package is entertaining and reliable, which
she and the other sharks found appealing. They will still need to burn through
the investment for a while, though. Sharks were wary since they had less money
in the bank, which may result in the company suffering losses in a matter of
months.
Aman Gupta (Co-Founder and CMO
Boat Lifestyle) enquired about their plans, but received no satisfactory
response. Going offline and expanding their catalogue did not sit well with Sharks.
The ambiguous approach discouraged all sharks from closing a deal.
Anupam Mittal (CEO People Group) suggested
that they get in touch with Lotus Herbals once more, while Aman Gupta suggested
employing a salesperson in order to concentrate on increasing sales.
Conscious Chemist left the Shark Tank India without a deal.
Conclusion
The company has a distinctive
product selection and has made wise investments that will only help it grow.
Their financial metrics and dedication to innovation indicate that they are a
brand to watch in the upcoming years, even though they might not have been able
to acquire investment for Shark Tank India. It will be interesting to observe
how Conscious Chemist affects skincare in India and abroad as it develops and
grows.
